Frequently Asked Questions
What is Cantai?
Cantai is an AI vocal synthesis engine for notation software. It reads your score — notes, lyrics, dynamics, tempo, and expression markings — and automatically generates expressive vocal performances. It is built from real professional vocalists who consented to participate, are paid for their work, and receive ongoing royalties.
Which voices are available?
Solo voices: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Baritone, each with soft and operatic style variants. Choir voices: Female Choir and Male Choir.
What languages are supported?
English and Latin are currently available. Additional languages are in development and will be released in future updates.
Which notation software does Cantai work with?
MuseScore Studio is supported now. Dorico launched on April 30, 2026. Sibelius launches May 30, 2026.
Can I use Cantai output in commercial projects?
Yes. Cantai is fully licensed for personal and professional use, including recordings that are sold or distributed commercially, as long as you own the rights to the music or it is in the public domain.
Does Cantai use my music to train its AI?
No. Cantai only sends the minimum encrypted notation data required to generate audio. Your music is never used for AI training and is not sold or shared beyond what is needed to operate the service.
How much does a lifetime license cost?
The regular price is $299. It is frequently discounted — check cantai.app/plans for the current offer (often available at $150).
Does one license cover all integrations?
Yes. A single lifetime license covers Dorico, Sibelius, and MuseScore Studio. You do not need to purchase separately for each notation software.
Is there a subscription option?
Yes, for MuseScore Studio users only. A $14.99/month subscription is available via MuseHub. It provides cloud rendering with a 180-minute-per-week quota that resets every Monday. The lifetime license has no quota and uses local rendering.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. A free trial is available for all plans before purchasing. Visit cantai.app/plans to get started.
Is there an education discount?
Yes. Special pricing is available for educational institutions. Contact us via the contact page for details.
What is the difference between local and online rendering?
With local rendering, the Cantai Engine runs on your computer — rendering is unlimited with no weekly quota. With online rendering (MuseScore subscription plan), audio is generated on Cantai's servers and is subject to a 180-minute-per-week limit. Both methods require an internet connection.
What hardware is required for local rendering?
Local rendering requires an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or later, macOS 12+) or an x86-64 Windows PC (Windows 10 version 20H2 or later). A minimum of 8 GB RAM (16 GB recommended) and 4 GB of available storage are also required.
Do I need an internet connection to use Cantai?
Yes. Both local and online rendering require an active internet connection — local rendering uses it for license validation, and online rendering uses it for cloud processing.
Does Cantai work on Intel Macs or Windows ARM devices?
Intel-based Macs and Windows ARM devices (e.g., Snapdragon-based PCs) are not supported for local rendering. MuseScore Studio users on those systems can still use Cantai via online (cloud) rendering on the monthly subscription plan.
Where do I purchase Cantai for MuseScore Studio?
Purchase via MuseHub at musehub.com/muse-sounds/cantai. Both the $14.99/month subscription and the lifetime access plan are available there.
What version of MuseScore do I need?
MuseScore Studio 4.6.4 or later is required. MuseHub must also be open and running in the background while using Cantai.
How do I assign a Cantai voice to a staff?
Open the Mixer (F10) in MuseScore Studio, then use the instrument selector on the desired staff to choose a Cantai voice (e.g., Cantai Soprano, Cantai Alto).
How do I add lyrics for Cantai to sing?
Select a note and press Ctrl+L (Windows) or Cmd+L (Mac) to enter lyric input mode. Lyrics are required — Cantai will not generate audio for notes without lyrics.
How does the 180-minute weekly quota work?
The quota applies to the monthly subscription plan. It counts new audio generated — playing back already-rendered passages does not consume quota. The quota resets every Monday at 00:00 UTC. To use your quota efficiently, switch to manual rendering mode in Preferences → Audio & MIDI and render only the sections you need.
Cantai isn't appearing or there's no audio — what should I do?
Check three things: (1) lyrics are present on the notes, (2) your weekly quota has not been exceeded, and (3) MuseHub is running in the background. To reset the connection, close both MuseScore Studio and MuseHub completely, then reopen MuseHub first, followed by MuseScore Studio. Repeat up to 3 times if needed.
When is Cantai available for Dorico?
An open beta launched April 15, 2026 for Dorico 6.2.10 or later. The official release is April 30, 2026 and requires Dorico 6.2.20 or later.
What are the system requirements for Dorico?
macOS: Apple Silicon M1 or later, macOS 12 Monterey or later.
Windows: x86-64 processor, Windows 10 version 20H2 (October 2020 update) or later.
Both platforms require at least 8 GB RAM (16 GB recommended) and 4 GB of available storage. Intel Macs and Windows ARM are not supported.
How do I set up Cantai in Dorico?
In Play mode, select Cantai as the playback device for your vocal staves and choose a voice. Switch to Write mode and add lyrics to your notes (Ctrl+L / Cmd+L). Cantai automatically responds to dynamics, crescendos, and tempo markings in your score.
How do I export audio from Dorico with Cantai?
Use File → Export → Audio in Dorico. Supported formats are WAV and MP3.
Are there any known limitations?
Cantai is monophonic — it renders one voice per staff and does not support chords or divisi within a single staff. Musical repeats and playback loops are not currently supported; write out repeated sections explicitly.
Cantai is not appearing in Dorico — what should I check?
Verify that the Cantai Engine is installed (download from your account at cantai.app), that you are running Dorico 6.2.20 or later, and that your Cantai license is active. Restart Dorico after installing the engine.
When does Cantai for Sibelius launch?
The official launch is May 30, 2026.
Can I pre-order now?
Yes. Pre-order at cantai.app/plans. Pre-ordering immediately gives you access to the Cantai web renderer, and your license will automatically include the Sibelius integration when it launches.
Is Sibelius covered by the same lifetime license?
Yes. The single lifetime license covers Sibelius, Dorico, and MuseScore Studio. No additional purchase is needed.
What hardware will be required for Sibelius?
Cantai for Sibelius will use the same local rendering engine as Dorico. Expected requirements are an Apple Silicon Mac or an x86-64 Windows PC. Full confirmed system requirements will be published at launch on May 30, 2026.
